Part of Richard's 12 Marathon Campaign
is to get people to realise their own capabilities, in sport, academic
or any other goal. Everyones goal is different, it doesn't matter
how big or small it is. With encouragement and determination these
goals can become a reality.
As a teenager one of Richard's ambitions
was to run a marathon, he never thought he was capable of achieving
this. Later in life, starting by walking to one lamp post then jogging
to the next Richard managed to increase his fitness and eventually
realised his dream in 2008. With lots of training and hard work,
his ambition came true, completing the London Marathon in 4 hours
Richard Bebbington is no stranger to sporting challenges.
He has ran the Ashby 20 on many occasions and the London Marathon
twice. With his partner, Angela Conibear, Richard has also trekked
to Everest Base Camp and cycled from Lands End to John o Groates.
Richard and Angela have also founded and organised an annual 37
mile challenge walk, this being the Ivanhoe Way Challenge (www.ivanhoechallenge.co.uk).
With each event being totally self-funded Richard and Angela have
raised many thousands for a local charity, Wishes 4 Kids.
Between May 2011 and April 2012 Richard will be the Mayor of Ashby
De La Zouch. During this time Richard will attempt to run '12 Marathons
in 12 Months' whilst being mayor. Part of Richard’s 12 marathon
campaign is to encourage people to realise their own capabilities,
in sport, academic or any other goal. As quoted by Richard, “everyone’s
goal is different, it doesn’t matter how big or small it is.
With encouragement and determination these goals can become a reality”.
Another big reason for the 12 marathons is to continue to raise
funds for Wishes 4 Kids. “It doesn’t matter how much
we raise, as every penny counts, especially in today’s economic
climate”. As always Richard will be funding all the costs
involved of each marathon. Therefore every penny raised will go
directly to Wishes 4 Kids.
